Ashburton Reservoir Hanlon Park Reconstruction

Hanlon Park, situated on the northern shore of the Ashburton Reservoir in Baltimore City, MD, is currently undergoing a reconstruction effort. This 12-acre park holds not only the promise of a rejuvenated community space but also the crucial responsibility of safeguarding clean drinking water for Baltimore Region residents. Guided by the vision of PELA, Project Landscape Architect for the project, Hanlon Park is being reimagined to cater to individuals of all ages.

Here are the project’s core features:

  • A tree-lined path leads to an entrance plaza with permeable pavers and a contemplative labyrinth, extending a warm welcome to all visitors.

  • A curvilinear network of universally accessible pathways with comprehensive signage system, navigates visitors throughout the park.

  • A multi-purpose field, an open play lawn and a wildflower meadow located atop the two underground water tanks, complemented by a picnic terrace with a playground, a picnic area, a pavilion, a fitness station and shade trees.

  • Additional fitness stations thoughtfully placed along the lake trail for the community’s physical well-being, while an amphitheater by the lake promises cultural enrichment and an attractive view to Baltimore City’s skylines.

  • Renovated baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts would foster a sense of community.

Hanlon Park stands as a testament to sustainable design, featuring low-maintenance, water-efficient landscaping, including reforestation, micro bio-retention areas, meadows, and more.

The Hanlon Park Reconstruction Project represents a commitment to the revitalization of a cherished community space and the responsible stewardship of precious natural resources.
