P.E.L.A. Design, Inc. (PELA) is a landscape architectural design firm incorporated in the State of Maryland in February 1992. The name of the firm is an acronym for the primary services we provide: Planning, Environmental Design, and Landscape Architecture.

PELA provides high quality services at various design phases: master planning, feasibility study, concept design, preliminary/schematic design, design development, construction documents preparation and construction phase services (shop drawing, material substitution and submittal reviews, field inspection, technical consultation-response to RFI, and punchlist.).

For over twenty (20) years, PELA has been working on projects throughout Maryland, in adjacent states, and overseas. These projects include city/institution/community master planning, urban design, streetscape design, park planning and design, design guidelines preparation, landscape architectural design for K to 12 school, higher education, housing, commercial and industrial developments, highway landscaping, visual and environmental quality enhancement for stormwater management facilities, historic preservation and design review for various clients.

Our core planning/design goal is to creatively integrate sustainable site design principles into our projects in a cost-efficient manner and minimizing the adverse impacts on our environment. The design we create is visually, spatially, and experientially unique to each project. We focus on context sensitivity, identity and sense of place, space functions, walkability/pedestrian friendliness, ADA compliance and sustainability.

In the design process, PELA has always proactively coordinated with our clients, project team architects, engineers, and stakeholders. PELA strives for the development of a strong and unique design vision for each project. With PELA’s experience and knowledge in construction materials and construction technology for both hardscape and landscape features, these visions can be realized in a cost-effective manner. This practice has resulted in successfully implemented projects that are well received by the user, the client, and the public at large.
